Jamalpur Shahi Masjid, Gaibandha

Jamalpur Shahi Masjid is in Boro Jamalpur village of Sadullapur upazila,some 16 km west of Gaibandha district. According to history, 360 Awliyas from Iraq set out on a mission to promote Islam throughout the world 600 years ago. This ancient Shahi Mosque was established under the guidance of Sufi Hazrat Shah Jamal (RA), who came to Gaibandha and the Union Parishad and was named after him. His shrine is situated on the north side of the mosque.

For a long period, the Jamalpur Shahi Mosque was buried beneath the ground. Later in the 60th century, Haqqani Qutbuddin, the administrator of Gaibandha Sub-Division, attempted but failed to search the mosque. After a sudden heavy storm, when the banyan trees growing in the place of the mosque were broken, the dwellers of the place noticed the mosque. Therefore, it also is called Ghaibi Mosque. A enormous Dighi before of the mosque, and there are many sayings surrounding the Dighi.

The mosque's upper wall is 56 inches thick, while the lower wall is 72 inches thick. Only two rows could pray at the same time, inside the mosque, later keeping the original infrastructure intact it was renovated and thus the space expanded. Now, at least 500-600 people can pray at a time together since the mosque has been elevated to two-storey.

How to go and Where to stay:

There are various AC and Non AC bus and only two trains available. Ticket varies according to the service they provide. These buses and trains directly take to Gaibandha headquarters. One can take auto or rickshaw to reach Sadullapur Upazila. It takes only 20-30 minutes to go there.

There are different hotels available in Gaibandha town as well as Gobindaganj upazila. One can stay there if he/she wishes to.
