
Birsreshtha Munshi Abdur Rauf was serving as a soldier of Mukti Bahini East Pakistan during the Pakistan regime. During 1971, the East Bengal Regiment wanted to restrict the Pakistan Armies to enter Rangamati-Mahalchhari waterway. For that, camps were constructed at the both sides of the Chengi lake. When Pakistan armies attacked Mukti Bahani, it was Rauf who saved at least 150 soldiers by crawling to the enemy’s trench and firing them with his automatic machine gun. While saving his co warriors, he got killed by one of the Pakistan Armies. Hwe was engraved in Naniarchor upazilla of Rangamati. Later, he was rewarded Bir Sreshtha which is the highest rank of bravery in Bangladesh. "You're invincible, fearless deathless soul"-this is written on his grave site, which is surrounded by deep blue water, are a one-of-a-kind expression of his glorious heroism. Every year on Independence and Victory Days, visitors from all over the world come to pay their respects to this great Liberation War hero. Apart from that, everyone is fascinated by the pineapple plantation of Naniarchar on the way to the burial ground, the engine-driven boats plying in Kaptai lake, and the beautiful scenery surrounding it.
How to Go:
The tomb of Bir Shreshtha Munsi Abdur Rauf can be reached through Khagrachari and Rangamati. From Dhaka, there are various bus services to Khagrachari and Rangamati from Kamalapur, Fakirapur, Gabtali or Kalabagan. After reaching Khagrachari, you can take an engine-powered boat to the burial place via Naniarchar. And from Rangamati city, you can take a car reserve and reach the jetty by an engine driven boat.
One can reach Rangamati from Oxygen Mor of Chittagong city and go to the burial place in the same way. The distance from Rangamati to Naniarchar is 33 km. It takes about one and a half hours to reach the cemetery from Naniarchar Ghat.
