Dharla Bridge is built over the Dharla River, which is a transboundary river flowing through India, Bhutan and Bangladesh. The Dhorla River originates in the Himalayas as the Jaldhaka River. On the Northwest bank of the river there is a park, established by the water Development Board and on the south bank there is a vast field named “Madan” field. Near Kurigram, both the rivers Dharla and Brahmaputra connects. The necessity of a bridge over Dharla River was felt to connect Nageshwari and Bhurungamari upazilas with Kurigram. So there a bridge was constructed to make the communication easy for the residents of Kurigram, Nageshwari and Bhurungamari. It was named the “First Dharla Bridge”. The length of the first Dharla Bridge is 648 meters.
In 2018, one more bridge was constructed over the Dharla river at Lalmonirhat Sadar Upazila’s Kulaghat and Shimulbari Union’s Ramprasad area. Both the areas belong Fulbari. This second bridge is known as “Sheikh Hasina Dharla Setu” or “Second Dharla Setu”. The construction of the second Dharla Bridge started in 2014 and was completed in June 2018. The length of this bridge is 950 m and width is 9.80 m and it has a total of 19 spans.
