The Tupamari Pond, a scenic pond covering about 25 acres, is situated inside the Multipurpose Agricultural Complex in Kurigram district, 125 meters east of AKK Road, near the start of Durgapur Union in Ulipur Upazila. Initially, it was a low swamp that couldn't sustain farming or fishery due to partial submersion Fish seek refuge in the marshes when the monsoon rains cover them with water. Koi fish and Koi minnows were among the fish. In the local language, tiny Koi were referred to as kaitipi or Koitopa. The name of the low swamp was derived from this Koitopa as the Topamari, which eventually became known as Topamari. Over time, efforts by local authorities and cooperatives transformed it into the present pond by excavating block-by-block sinkholes.
This site now attracts visitors, especially during winter and festive seasons like Pahela Baishakh, Eid, and Puja. Fishing enthusiasts from various regions visit for angling purposes. The place has evolved into a recreational spot, drawing crowds for picnics and leisure activities.
Efforts are underway to further develop Tupamari pond into a proper recreation center with plans for child-friendly rides, seating arrangements, and other amenities to enhance its appeal to travelers and visitors.
