Sonahat Bridge, Bhurungamari, Kurigram

Sonahat Bridge is constructed over the Dudhkumar river of Bhurungamari sub-district in Kurigram.  From 6 km away of Bhurungamari, the river flows. This bridge was constructed during the British regime as part of the Lalmonirhat-Guwahati rail line (1887). To carry troops and supplies, the British built a railway line from Lalmonirhat to Guwahati across Bhurungamari in the Indian state of Manipur. This 1200 foot long bridge was built as a railway bridge but is now utilized as a road. This bridge is locally known as Pateshwari bridge.

The Pakistani militant destroyed one part of it during the War of Independence,1971. Later, it was repaired by the government of Bangladesh. During the winter, many wanderlust travelers come here for picnics. Pateshwari Bazaar, 1 km west of Banga Sonahat Bridge, was previously highly busy. An historic mosque erected by Mirjumla is only a few kilometers from Pateshwari Bazar. This medieval mosque was constructed around 1660.
